At first, let us talk about what any language is. We use the English language, as well as any other language, first of all, to transfer information from one person to another. We can do it in an oral form by means of spoken language, or in a written form by means of written language. That is why both an oral and a written form of a language is important. That is why it is also important to learn not only listening and speaking, but also reading and writing.
There are two types of a language: 1) analytical language and 2) flective language. The English language is the example of an analytical language. In analytical languages, most grammar elements are outside a word. It means that to make one or another grammar construction we should use auxiliary elements, like auxiliary verbs, for example, that we should add to a word:
I read a book. (present simple tense)
I have read a book. (present perfect tense)
As you see, there appears one auxiliary element (auxiliary verb to have) in the second sentence. It shows that an action (read) is finished. In flective languages almost all grammar elements are inside a word, as we can see it in the Russian language, for example:
Я читаю книгу. (present simple tense)
Я прочитал книгу. (present perfect tense)
In the Russian language, there also appear auxiliary elements (a prefix [про] and an ending [ал]) which are inside a word. At that, words endings are different for different personal pronouns. These ever changing endings make learning flective languages very difficult:
Мы прочитали книгу. We have read a book.
Вы прочитали книгу. You (plural) have read a book.
Ты прочитал книгу. You (singular) have read a book.
Он прочитал книгу. He has read a book.
Она проичитала книгу. She has read a book.
Оно прочитало книгу. It has read a book.
Они прочитали книгу. They have read a book.
In the English language, words endings are changed very seldom. That is why the English language is considered to be one of the easiest languages in the world. And it is a very good news for all the English language learners. The only thing they should remember on this stage is that in the Present Simple Tense a verb has an ending – s or – es after he, she, it: he, she, it reads (goes). To make all the other grammar constructions of the English language one should learn some very easy rules that are very easy to understand and to remember. The Beautiful English learning system makes learning these very easy grammar rules easier because it shows grammar in colors and in pictures. Beautiful English also enables learners to get enough speaking practice to practice making and pronouncing all those grammar constructions. In such a way it helps them to remember grammar rules and get automatic speaking skills that they will need in a real conversation.
1. Any language reflects everything that happens in the world by means of words and sentences. When something happens in the world, there is somebody or something who or which is (auxiliary verb) somewhere, has a certain size or qualities (at home, big, cold) or does something (reads, writes, swims):
She is a girl. (Subject, auxiliary verb, object)
She is beautiful. (subject, auxiliary verb, object)
She eats ice cream. (subject, main verb, object)
The English language reflects the world as it is. That is why, they use auxiliary verbs to make correct sentences. In many languages, one can change the words position in a sentence. In English, the sentence structure must be like it is shown above. Follow this link to learn more about the English sentence structure. Thus, when you build an English sentence you should remember that a subject (somebody or something) goes first. Then this somebody or something is somewhere or has some qualities or does something (auxiliary or main verb). In an affirmative sentence, a verb always follows a subject. In an interrogative sentence, an auxiliary verb is before a subject:
Is she a girl?
Is she beautiful?
Does she eat ice cream?
2. All the English sentences must be complete. It means that any English sentence should have a subject, a verb and an object. If a sentence doesn’t have a subject or a verb, such a sentence is incomplete and incorrect. For example, in Russian or in Thai languages, one can say:
Она красивая. เธอสวย. She beautiful.
In these sentences, there isn’t a verb. That is why, these sentences are incomplete and, from the point of view of English grammar, are incorrect. The correct sentence is:
She is beautiful.
Or in Russian and in Thai, one can say:
Очень холодно. หนาวมาก. Very cold.
In these sentences, both a subject and a verb are missing. That is why, these sentences are incomplete and, from the point of view of English grammar, are incorrect. The correct sentence is:
It is very cold. (It – subject, is – verb)
Please, try to remember these two important principles of the English Language and always make English sentences according to them. If you follow this recommendation, your sentences will be complete and your speech fluent, correct and beautiful.
